Mantabase is the world’s largest manta and devil ray sightings database.
This open-access platform combines scientific datasets and citizen scientist contributions to drive collaborative research, ocean engagement and conservation actions for these threatened species.
To achieve these goals, Mantabase combines field surveys, photo-ID sightings, and behavioural observations with cutting edge technologies to help process, analyse, and disseminate the results to a global team of researchers and the public.
You can directly contribute to Mantabase by submitting photos, videos and information from your manta and devil ray encounters. In doing so, you are not only contributing valuable scientific data, but can also learn more about the individual gentle giants you spotted by using our IDtheManta automated matching software to find any individual in our database using its unique pattern of ventral (belly) spots. You can also search Mantabase to find specific individual manta rays, view sighting histories by location, or login to your account to keep track of all your sightings.
